7.     What changes Nick’s mind about the veracity of Gatsby’s stories?

8.     Who is Meyer Wolfsheim and what do we know of him?

Meyer Wolfsheim是 Gatsby 的一个朋友,a gambler(投机者),比较 sentimental, fifty years old, the man who fixed the World’s Series back in 1919.

9.     With the line, “One October day…" Jordan recalls the time in 1917 when she saw Gatsby and Daisy together. What indication is there that Daisy really liked Gatsby?

Gatsby?her mother found her packing her bag one winter night to go to New York and say goodbye to a soldier who was going overseas.

 10.   How did Daisy behave the night before her wedding? Why?

Daisy is drunk.

11.   From whom do you suppose the letter in her hand came and what do you think the letter might have said?

12.   To what is Nick referring in Chapter One when he says, Then it had not been merely the stars to which he [Gatsby] had aspired on that June night”?

from Chapter one: The silhouette of a moving cat wavered across the moonlight and turning my head to watch it I saw that I was not alone—fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor’s mansion and was standing with his hands in his pockets regarding the silver pepper of the stars.

13.   What is happening in the relationship between Nick and Jordan?

And I firmly believed, that no humane shape had ever set foot upon that place.

There was the smile again, but this time I held out against it.

Red Cross:红十字
pomp and circumstance:排场
