Chapter 10 Shanghai School Days

After a storm,Wu Chun-mei and I  became friend.We helped each other.She often accompanied me all the way to school.They all loved read.But not once did  I mention my family or hint at the presence of a stepmpther.

A Little Princess gripped my imagination as no other book had ever done before.I read it again and again.I can grasp the impact the message of hope,which had upon me.I copied the book word for word ,committed parts of it to memory,and slept with it under my pillow until the manuscript became tattered.I envied my friend in many ways.As much as possible ,in front of her,I  pretended that I had loving parents too.

During the spring term of 1946,Father took Niang,Big Sister,Fourth Brother and Little Sister north to reclaim his Tianjin properties.They stayed away for three months.During the three months,the house seemed relaxed and carefree.Big brother told the maid change his palate.Every one was relaxed.But I was sadded by Third Brother.The fact of mama dyingwhen I was born made me be the bad person.
