“For you, a thousand times over”.
Kite fighting is kind of sport or activity in Afghanistan, and some other countries. In Afghanistan Kites used range from 0.5 m to 1.5 m across. The line is traditionally made with a cotton line and coated with a mixture of crushed glass and rice glue. Kites can go up to 3500 meters in height depending on the size of the kite. From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban government in Afghanistan outlawed kite fighting, and kite flying. After the fall of the Taliban government kite fighting has returned to the country.
This book told the story of a young Kabul boy, whose closest friend Hassan was his servant. However, Amir was a Pashtun boy, and Hassan was a Hazara boy. They had different social classes. Amir’s father was a wealthy merchant who loved both boys, and Hassan’s baba was servant of Amir’s father. Amir’s father treated Hassan very well which made Amir so jealous. Meantime, his father often critical of Amir’s weak and lacking in courage. As a little boy whose mom was dead early, "he often had dinner alone when his dad was at the construction site to build orphanage house. He already hated all the kids he was building the orphanage for, sometimes he wished they’d all died along with their parents.” It was no surprise what he did to Hassan. When reading the part of depicting of sexual assaulted that happened to Hassan and Amir did not have the courage to protect Hassan, I cannot stop crying.
The whole book was prominent by the themes of guilt and redemption feature. When he built his successful career as a novelist, and his marriage. However, they couldn’t have children. Until one day he got a phone call. "There is a way to be good again", Amir went back to Afghanistan to rescue Hassan’s son after decades.
他是千千万万受到塔利班迫害的人之一,正如Rahim Khan所说,“They don’t let you be human.” For you, a thousand times over”,
