Unsure of the word, the recipient found two contradictory meanings in his dictionary.

4-specific to 独有的,只与……相关的
Anglophones, on the other hand, often speak too fast for others to follow, and use jokes, slang and references specific to their own culture.
5-up the game 提升自己
With non-native English speakers in the majority worldwide, it's Anglophones who may need to up their game.
6-bugbear 令人困扰(或担忧)的事
7-baffle 使……困惑
One bugbear is abbreviations. In emails, they use baffling abbreviations such as 'OOO' instead of simply saying that they will be out of the office.
8-understatement 保守的陈述,轻描淡写
9-face value 面额;字面意思
When a Brit reacts to a proposal by saying "That's interesting.", a fellow Brit might recognise this as understatement for, "That's rubbish." But other nationalities would take the word "interesting " on face value.
