1-come to fruition 实现,完成

Whether or not that sale comes to fruition, it highlights Grubhub and its competitors are struggling to compete over who brings you food from restaurants.

2-duke it out 竞争,一决高下

Uber Eats, Postmates, and a handful of smaller competitors are duking it out in cities and towns across America.

3-low-margin 低利润的

Food delivery is a low-margin business, which charges money from customers delivery and other service fee, and from revenue share with restaurants.

4-beat out 击败,打败

Those margins are further tightened as food-delivery companies want to beat out their competition by lowing their fees from customers and offering expensive promotions.

5-lock in 锁住,留住

These discounts, however, aren't necessarily locking in customers, but rather encouraging customers to shop around.

6-consolidation 巩固

Any consolidation will be welcomed by the industry, though perhaps not by customers, who are currently enjoying the major discounts that result from the competition among these companies.
